IT IS AN ORGANISATION UNDER THE DEPARTMENT OF MICRO & SMALL SCALE ENTERPRISES & TEXTILES, GOVT. OF WEST BENGAL. |
West Bengal Khadi & Village Industries Board implement different project for improving rural economy.
The West Bengal Khadi & Village Industries Board has District Level infrastructures of its own to carry-out its programmes and activities in the rural areas.
As per provision of the West Bengal Khadi & Village Industries Board Act - 1959, there will be maximum 11l(eleven) nos. of Board's members.
Gandhiji, after his return from South Africa on 9th January 1915, set up an ashrarn at Kochrab near Ahmedabad and installed a loom there. Gangabahen a spinner from village Vijapur of Gaikwad state joined the ashram. Since that day charkha, the spinning wheel, has started rotating.
Khadi and Village Industries have the unique capacity to generate large employment opportunities in the rural areas at a low capital cost as well as to create entrepreneurship development and have therefore occupied an important place in the national economy. These industries develop local initiatives, cooperation and spirit of self-reliance in the economy and at the same time help in utilization of available manpower in rural areas for processing locally available raw materials by adoption of simple techniques. Since agriculture sector has been losing its ability to generate additional employment opportunities for the fast increasing work force in rural areas, importance of KVIC as well as KVIB, have increased for finding an alternative and appropriate employment of rural people.
Futures are indeed decisive and present itself as a new time segment of turning point in the process of revival and reinvention of the ‘KHADI and ‘VILLAGE INDUSTRIES’ front.
In the present scenario of industrialization, the activities of West Bengal Khadi & Village Industries Board is very relevant as it has been striving very hard and making efforts to implement the ‘KHADI’ & ‘VILLAGE INDUSTRIES’ programme for generating rural employment aiming at upliftment of socio-economic condition of the rural people and march towards prosperity which is also a story of dawn of employment generation.
